New Voices now open for applications

7th December 2020 / News

We’re pleased to announce that New Voices, the mentoring and professional development programme for women and non-binary documentary filmmakers based in Scotland, is again open to applications.

Part of our 50/50+ Women Direct campaign, New Voices is aimed at emerging documentary directors and/or producers and is a mix of mentoring, group and one-to-one career coaching, and industry sessions, all designed to grow participants’ confidence, industry knowledge and networks.

The first ever cohort joined the New Voices programme in October this year and they are already seeing positive impact on their careers.

Says SDI Director Noe Mendelle: “The New Voices programme is a truly unique approach and has shown us how important it is to tailor support for filmmakers who are very much in the minority in the industry – in this case women and non-binary filmmakers. It gives them the space to work on the internal and external barriers they face together as a group, individually, and with mentors.”

We are very keen to have diversity within our New Voices participants, and strongly encourage applications from female and non binary filmmakers of colour, and with disabilities.

The call for applications closes at midnight on Sunday 31 January 2021, with interviews taking place in February. The programme will start on 22 March and will run for six months.

Full details can be found in our New Voices section.
