The 12th year of Bridging the Gap shorts at Edinburgh International Film Festival!
Last year’s shorts have all done amazingly well over the past year and we’re all incredibly excited and delighted to see the latest shorts premiere at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2015. We’d love you to come and join us to watch the latest four Bridging the Gap shorts on June 18 at 4pm. Tickets available here.
There will also be an additional screening of the Bridging the Gap shorts this year on June 28 at 2.15pm.
THE BANANA REPUBLIC (Dir: Scott Calonico. Prod: Lindsay Goodhall)
Built in 1962 as an answer to local overcrowding and slum conditions in tenements, Leith’s Cables Wynd housing estate, known locally as the Banana Flats, became notorious as the crime-ridden center of Europe’s heroin epidemic in the 1980s. In 2015, it sits down the street from two Michelin starred restaurants. The film follows a local photographer and former resident who is embarking on a quest to document the triumphs and tragedies that exist inside each of the estate’s 204 flats.
BUBO’S LIMBO (Dir: Alberto Iordanov. Prod: Anne Milne)
Born at the beginning of the socialist regime in Bulgaria, Bubo was one of the few who enjoyed a privileged lifestyle. His journey reflects the rise and fall of the communist ideal. The film explores how Bubo transcends his challenging present by pursuing impossible dreams.
MINING POEMS OR ODES (Dir: Callum Rice. Prod: Jack Cocker)
Robert, an ex-shipyard welder from Govan in Scotland, reflects on how his life experiences have influenced his new found compulsion to write.
His retrospective poetry revels a man who is trying to achieve a state of contentment through words and philosophy. He has replaced his tools for pens and paper.
THE THIRD DAD (Dir: Theresa Moerman Ib. Prod: Richard Warden)
Ten years after breaking all ties with her alcoholic father, a filmmaker sets out not only to find his grave, but also redemption. Poetically merging archive material, new footage and an immersive soundscape, The Third Dad is a brave journey of memory, self-discovery and a desperate attempt at reconciliation.
Bridging the Gap is one of the leading documentary new talent initiatives for cinema and broadcast in the UK. Consistently picking up awards, BAFTA’s, special mentions and festival screenings in over 40 countries world-wide, it offers a creative training programme alongside production.
Bridging the Gap is part of our Docscene season of masterclasses and workshops supported by Creative Scotland and the Edinburgh College of Art (University of Edinburgh).
Bridging the Gap 12 was also supported by Channel 4 for the first time, with the films due to be broadcast in the Shooting Gallery some time in the near future.
