Libya in Motion joins the Michigan Revolution

18th July 2017 / News

The powerful and timely omnibus from 13 filmmakers in post-revolution Libya is to screen at the prestigious Traverse City Film Festival on 26 July. Libya in Motion has been hand-picked by legendary, Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore, as part of his Travel Ban Sidebar, a focal point of this year’s festival.

“The movies I’ve selected this year are bold, brave, larger-than-life stories that made me laugh, and sometimes cry, but always left me with a sense of hope and wonder.” Michael Moore in his TCFF 2017 welcome note.

Filmed over the course of three years, Libya in Motion explores a cross-section of post-revolution life, from Naziha Arebi’s Granny Flags, about an optimistic mother of eight, Haja Fatma, to illegal migrants, forgotten and caught in limbo in detention centres in Ahmed Aboub’s Dead End.

Traverse City Film Festival was founded by Michael Moore and takes place in his hometown in Northern Michigan. It grew out of his belief that one great movie can change you and is dedicated to saving one of America’s few indigenous art forms and also to presenting some classic movies free of charge. We’re excited that Libya in Motion has been selected by Michael, and that it will be part of this vital festival, bringing about change and contributing to the protection and furthering of a vital art form.
