Join us for a Masterclass with Almost Heaven director Carol Salter.
Carol’s awarding winning film Unearthing The Pen has screened internationally at over 80 film festivals including Encounters, Rushes, IDFA, Sheffield Doc/Fest, Silverdocs, and Palm Springs Film Festival. Her documentary Mayomi, has also received a number awards at International festivals.
Carol’s current film – Almost Heaven had it’s World Premiere at Berlin Generation 2017 and was nominated for Glashütte Original Documentary Award. In this Masterclass, Carol will talk about her previous documentary work with Oxfam, and moving onto feature cinematic work, how to transfer the skills from being an editor to director, and the processes and challenges of making Almost Heaven.
Synopsis: The 17-year-old Ying LIng is far from home, training to be a mortician at one of China’s largest funeral parlours. As she prepares for another final farewell, she also fears the spirits that lurk in the corridors of the crematorium. She shares these strange rituals of death with co-worker Jin Hau, and grows to understand what it means to be alive. But soon she is left to face the harsh realities of the job and her life alone.
The Masterclass will run from 14:00-17:00.
