We are very excited to be screening not one but TWO of our latest features at the wonderful CPH:DOX next month! Not only do we have a fantastic event screening lined up for Time Trial but we are delighted to be presenting the World Premiere of Emma Davie and Peter Mettler’s Becoming Animal, which will screen in the main Dox:Award competition!
Becoming Animal is an urgent and immersive audiovisual quest. Shot in Grand Teton National Park, this immersive essay film draws together the distinct sensibilities of filmmakers Emma Davie (I Am Breathing) and Peter Mettler (The End of Time) and radical writer and philosopher David Abram to encounter the spaces where humans and animals meet. It’s a subversive nature film in which we pique our senses to witness the so-called natural world—which in turn witnesses us. Moose clash antlers and a snail’s body becomes a vast landscape while the myriad sensory tools of cinema explore our complicity with this “more-than-human world.” A great fit we feel for this festival that has continued to push boundaries since its inception 15 years ago.

We’ve also been working on something pretty special with the festival! On March 24th, we will be presenting a screening of Time Trial followed by a psychedelic electro concert with the film’s insanely talented soundtrack composer, Dan Deacon!
The event is part of CPH:DOX’s AUDIO:VISUALS concert series which will combine visuals and music in special venues and unusual settings around the city. With Dan’s live shows being called “the stuff of underground legend” by Rolling Stone magazine and a “joyful communal whomp” by Pitchfork, we think this will be a very exciting collaboration!
Time Trial Director Finlay Pretsell has said “I decided I had to work with Dan Deacon after attending one of his live performances. It was a sensory experience – exhilarating and unfiltered – and he even had me dancing which is no mean feat! I’m thrilled to see one of the most exciting documentary festivals highlighting his masterful work.”
