“Understory” by Margarida Cardoso is a personal essay on the coca tree. The film will be introduced by Noe Mendelle, director of SDI.

A personal essay on a plant and all its cultural and economic ramifications: cocoa. Traveling through São Tomé and Príncipe, England and Brazil, the director walks us from past to present, dismantling the objectives of European colonial oppression.

This film screening is part of the 7th edition of IberoDocs, the Ibero-American Documentary Film Festival in Scotland (26 FEB – 15 MARCH) and it has been brought to you with the support of Scottish Documentary Institute, Camões – Instituto da Cooperação e da Língua and the University of Edinburgh.
