Aliona van der Horst: Boris Ryzhy (2014)

Aliona van der Horst | Masterclass | 2013

Aliona van der Horst is a renowned Dutch documentary filmmaker of Dutch/Russian origin who has an MA in Russian Literature from Amsterdam University. She directed the documentary film “Boris Rhyzy”, which had its première at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam in November 2008. In the process of making this documentary, Aliona discovered there was no website dedicated to this fascinating poet. She is happy to share all the beautiful pictures, songs, interviews and voice recordings she found while researching her subject.

In this masterclass, Aliona tells us about the ethics of filmmaking, the first stage when speaking to people, access rights in ethical filmmaking, and what happens when disaster strikes.

This Masterclass is viewable in the embedded video above.
