SDI at Edinburgh International Film Festival

31st May 2017 / Festivals, News

The Edinburgh International Film Festival 2017 programme has been released today and we’re very excited to announce that along with the World Premiere of our new Bridging the Gap shorts we’ll be celebrating the UK Premiere of our latest feature film Donkeyote!

Donkeyote follows retiree, Manolo, who has a simple life in Southern Spain where he can enjoy his two loves: his animals, in particular his donkey Gorrión, and long walks through nature. Against the advice of his doctor, he decides to plan one last epic walk in the US, the brutal 2200 mile Trail of Tears. But not without Gorrión.

The film has already screened in several festivals around Europe, North America and Asia (picking up the Audience Award for Best Documentary at Festival de Cine Espanol in Malaga) and we’re delighted to have this Spanish/German/UK co-production’s UK Premiere mere metres from our HQ in Edinburgh!

On the very same day as Donkeyote‘s UK Premiere we have the World Premiere of our Bridging the Gap shorts but luckily enough for you doc-lovers there’s no clash! In this programme we will present six films created as part of our new talent initiative, Bridging the Gap, which offers intensive training and commission opportunities to emerging UK-based filmmakers. The scheme has been running for 14 years and the films produced to date have received festival awards, BAFTAs, special mentions, as well as screenings at festivals in over 60 countries world-wide.

This year’s theme was Rebellion and we have stories of horses, teeth, refugees, artists and more pushing limits, boundaries and buttons. Come along and you might just see the future of creative documentary!

On top of this, we’re delighted to see that there are two films screening this year that were pitched at The Edinburgh Pitch in previous years! These are the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for World Cinema Documentary winning Last Men in Aleppo and the fascinating film about motherhood, Amazona, which will have its UK Premiere at Edinburgh.

Join us at The Edinburgh Pitch 2017 on 20 June, a day before EIFF kicks off, to find inspiration, learn how to present your project on an international platform and be amongst the first to discover some exciting new projects from the four corners of the documentary world.
